Alaska City Folk Arts Camp
The Alaska City Folk Arts Camp, one of the foremost camps in the U.S. for teaching folk music and dance to young people, also includes the art of storytelling in the curriculum. The camp takes place each year in June at a location in Anchorage. Instructors include local musicians, dancers, and other specialists as well as guest artists.
National Storytelling Network
NSN co-sponsors the National Storytelling Festival and the National Storytelling Conference. Yukon International Storytelling Festival
Each summer sees more and more storytellers gathering in Whitehorse to celebrate the North’s rich storytelling tradition under the midnight sun. Incorporating costume, dance, theater, drums, mime and music, the Yukon International Storytelling Festival transports visitors across miles of land, years of history and lifetimes of experience.
Northwest Folklife Festival
A major annual Seattle event, the Northwest Folklife Festival includes storytelling as well as the other folk arts. The festival takes place in May.
Vancouver International Children’s Festival
Storytelling is included along with many other types of performances at the Vancouver International Children’s Festival, British Columbia, Canada. The festival takes place in May.
Anchorage Folk Festival
Each year in January the Anchorage Folk Festival brings lovers of folk music and dance together to enjoy two weekends of free entertainment by local and nationally known musicians. Concerts also take place at various locations in the community during the week. The Storyteller’s Guild of Anchorage participates by offering storytelling during this event.
Alaska Folk Festival
The Alaska Folk Festival is a unique event and can be compared more to a folk life festival then to the folk festivals that many of us have experienced. It enlivens the entire community of Juneau during Folk Festival Week. KTOO Radio broadcasts it so that people can listen even when they are not there. Admission is free. In April.
Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival
Storytelling is one of the featured elements at the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival, a study-performance festival held annually on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus. The 2004 dates are July 18 – August 1.
